Joelle's Garden of Goodies!
WELCOME!! (Again) It's 2020 and all the stuff below needs a REWRITE! The history is true, but it needs an update. Don't judge me. ;) Winky face.
WELCOME!! Just a little bit about me; I am a wife and mother of 5 children. Being a wife and a mom has directed the path that I am on now. If it wasn't for my little family that was created, who knows what I would be doing! My website is devoted to everything I am passionate about - and that's a lot; hence the name Joelle's Garden of Goodies.
After I had my first child back in 1991, I swore I would never have any more children. It was not the most pleasant event I had ever attended. In 1997, I got pregnant, but by this point I had been saying "IF I ever get pregnant, I'm going to do it the right way." Except I had no clue what that was - I just knew it wasn't suppose to be like it was with the first birth. So...I went on a mission to find out what I was really suppose to do. I went to the book store (cuz I was not computer savvy back then, and I don't even know if Amazon was around.). I found a book called Husband-Coached Childbirth; it was the only book I found that talked about Natural Childbirth. At this point, I had finally figured out there was a name to "doing it right" - Natural Childbirth! I fell in love with this whole process. I had three more kids after the first natural birth! With my third child I went to Bradley Method Classes, and even wanted to be a Natural Childbirth Educator, but instead I came away with the desire to sell Baby Slings and Boppys and just educate mom's on how I felt was a better way to bond with their baby and how to have a healthier baby. I even had a short stint as a WIC Breastfeeding Counselor, but our Dept. of Health did away with it.
In 1998, I acquired a book from my Great Aunt's house called Herbs for Health. She had died, and I took the book. If natural childbirth was the better way to go, I just knew that there was a better way to take care of my family aside from pharmaceuticals. Right off the bat I put the book to work. I used a recipe of Onion Honey Syrup and an Onion Poultice to relieve my 9 month old of struggling with breathing one (middle of the) night, and made Garlic-Mullein Oil to rid my husband of an ear infection - he had used two different antibiotics and it still had not gone away.
In 2001, I had my fourth child. By the time she was 18 months old, I had decided vaccines were not the way to go. I was really scared of autism, and at this time there was controversy of vaccines relating to it. I personally think that there is a gut issue long before they get to the point of 18 months old, and perhaps the vaccine sets it off. (Topic for another day). Over the years I experimented with Vegetarianism and even wondered what the Raw Food Diet was. BUT my idea of vegetarian was Grilled Cheese Sandwiches, Spaghetti - O's, Spaghetti and Chocolate Chip Cookies! I've come along way. It's a good thing I didn't stick with that diet.
In 2007, I had my fifth child, and now my whole world was turned upside down. This is when food and being natural took over my life! This baby came out with a wheat and dairy allergy. After four kids, you have a pretty good idea of what is normal, the endless crying, the fighting while breastfeeding, the rash on the forehead and the stuff that was happening in the diaper was not normal. By the time he was a month I figured out dairy was the major cause of our unhappiness (I had been bawling my eyes out, cuz by GOD I was going to nurse this child!), that was the first thing eliminated and two weeks later I figured out wheat was the cause of the rash. I changed my diet - We were now Gluten Free. During this process we found out that my oldest child, who had been sick for years, with no diagnosis, she has a problem with gluten and dairy. Lo and behold, we found out that it was causing me problems! What the heck? Really? That's what caused "that!" Researching how to make my old foods with new foods was very challenging, but I've gotten pretty good at it. This food thing has morphed into other interests. It went back into herbs and healing, and back to Vegetarian and I have even dabbled in Raw Food! I can pretty much help anybody with food allergies, intolerances, and their bad digestion with all the knowledge I have gained over the past twelve years AND guess what? It's good for pregnancy - so I can fit that back it too.
Here we are 2012 and I am FINALLY writing a blog, and sharing my knowledge of what I love, and on top of that I am using Essential Oils to improve the health and wealth of my family. I will refer to them often because I use them everyday, and everyday I tell someone how they can improve their health, and possibly get off of their pharmaceutical drugs by getting their bodies back into balance and let their bodies do the healing it needs. I am a Certified AromaTouch Therapy Technician - relieving people of their pain one oil at a time!
